Steve
Ovett born in 1955 (58yr) and he was gold medalist in the 800 meters at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, and set world records for 1500 meters and the mile run. He holds the world record for the two miles, which he set in 1978. Ovett’s was
a talented teenage athlete. As a youngster, he showed
great promise as a footballer, but gave it up for athletics, because he
did not want to do a sport where he would have to rely on teammates. He had
established a new mile world record of 3:48.8 and two weeks later equalled Sebastian Coe's world record of 3:32.1 in the 1500 m and
the second time that Ovett
and Coe had met each other in international competition. After he retired, he has been a Track & Field television commentator
for the CBC since 1992. He now lives in Australia and
was a part of the BBC's on-location commentary team for the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
My best sport personality is Sir Alex Ferguson because he Built a club, not a team and he makes winning a
nature.
